Now that Democrats control three branches of NY government, Governor Cuomo is trying to stall a vote for the NY Health Act, which has passed in the State Assembly multiple times and now may have enough votes to pass the Senate.
Cuomo wants to create a "Commission for Universal Access to Health Care" comprised of "health policy and insurance experts" to mull over insurance schemes until December 1, 2019.
New Yorkers who are fighting for a single-payer, Medicare-For-All style plan for our state will not stand for this transparent attempt to delay a popular bill that has been under consideration by the legislature for years.
We need single-payer, publicly-financed healthcare...not a year of studies!
We, the undersigned, pledge to call our state legislature representatives to say we want them to...
1. Co-sponsor and vote for the New York Health Act with all due haste
2. Strike Cuomo's proposed Health Care Commission from the budget
- For Senators, call 518-455-2800
- For Assembly members, call 518-455-4100
We also pledge to submit testimony expressing our opposition to this "Universal Health Care Commission" to the Ways & Means and Health Committees (a joint Assembly-Senate hearing) by February 14.
Testimony can be sent to both [email protected] and [email protected].
