The Green Party of New York had two members elected to local school boards on May 15. Dr. Edgar Rodriguez was elected Trustee to the New Paltz Board of Education and Rome Celli was re-elected to the Brighton Board of Education. Both candidates have a long history in education and community activism in their local areas.

“Since 1973, I have the experience of putting six children through the New Paltz schools with three children now completing their secondary studies. This direct experience has given me a unique vantage point to help the Board of Education steer the district in a positive direction for our children and community.” said Dr. Rodriguez.

Rodriguez campaigned on four main platform points:

  • teach the total child with a balanced curriculum,

  • school tax reform,

  • educate students to respect and defend diversity,

  • meaningful public participation in building/academic planning.

Rome Celli was elected to the Brighton Central School District, just outside of Rochester in 2004. He ran unopposed, winning one of the two seats on the Board for 2006.

“I have learned a lot over the last three years of service on our school board. I strongly support our district’s mission, vision of the future, administration and policies. I am committed to the district’s goal of realizing the high aspirations our community has for its students. I will work to help equip our students with the knowledge, values, and skills that will enrich their lives and enable them to become responsible, contributing citizens,” said Celli.

The Green Party stands for:
