Midway through the "Elect-a-llujah" for Reverend Billy Talen’s mayoral benefit at the Highline Ballroom last night, civil rights activist and City Council candidate Yetta Kurland introduced "the person we've all come here to see." Joan Baez was the name on everyone's lips waiting outside in the sheets of rain before the door opened for the eccentric Green party candidate. Baez and her band were part of the night's lineup, along with Jollyship the Whiz-Bang, Greta Gaines, Quitzow and others. A volunteer collected signatures for Reverend Billy’s candidacy (he needs 20,000 to be on the ballot).
